Remembers when Mom used to tape your artwork to the fridge? Well, welcome to our virtual fridge. We'll post samples from our Junior Mappers on this page so you can follow our progress.

Rick Shane - 09/29/02

Here's one for the archives. Rick sent this to our Junior Mapper's group on 9/29/02 with the following message:

Well, I didn't get down to Emory this weekend, but I have started messing around with OCAD 6.0. It is the most frustrating program I have ever seen. I can make a map, but it looks like a two year old's crayon drawing. I'm not sure if I just need practice, or if I am doing it all wrong, or both. I've attached my masterpiece, just in case anyone is interested in a good laugh. (Click on the thumbnail for a larger picutre.)

I started with a GA Tech campus map, then had to make corrections because it was aligned to grid north rather than magnetic north. Next, Sam helped me find another map that had contour lines and we showed me how to trace over them in OCAD 8 using the Bezier curve tool. I'm used to using this tool in Corel Draw but it is slightly different in OCAD. Here's what I've got so far. (Click on the thumbnail for a larger picture.)
