The BubbaGoat returns to GAOC and Chattahoochee Bend State Park!. This special race originated with GAOC, and travels around the southeastern orienteering clubs.

Special Rules!

• Mass start.
• Following is allowed.
• You may skip 2 controls.
• There will be forked controls - choose one fork, but not both. You cannot skip forked controls.
• A BubbaGoat tradition: Anyone who runs in bib overalls will get a 10 minute head start!

Location

The Adirondack Camping area at Chattahoochee Bend State Park

Courses

There will be three different lengths for the BubbaGoat.

• Big BubbaGoat - 10.2 km & 250 meters climb
• Small BubbaGoat - 7.7 km & 210 meters climb
• Tiny BubbaGoat - 5.5 km & 150 meters climb

There will also be White, Yellow, and Orange courses.

The time limit for each course is 2 1/2 hours.

Awards

Map

1:10000, 2.5 meter contours. All BubbaGoat courses will venture into the Flat Rock area.

Registration

You can register for the BubbaGoat now and reserve your spot.

Registration for the regular courses will open the week before the event.

Camping

The will be free primitive camping available the night of Dec 17th in the Adirondack Camping shelters for a limited number of campers. These are 3-sided shelters with a pit toilet. Contact the meet director to reserve your spot.

Registration for the BubbaGoat is open now.

Registration for the White/Yellow/Orange courses will open the week before the BubbaGoat.

Dec 17th:

• primitive camping available in the late afternoon - contact meet director

Dec 18th:

• 8:45 AM - mandatory meeting for all BubbaGoat racers
• 9:30 - Mass start for all BubbaGoat races
• 9:45 AM - start times for White/Yellow/Orange courses
• 12 noon - deadline to finish any BubbaGoat course and receive your award

BubbaGoat Strategy

Following is allowed - if you are a fast runner, pick a good orienteer to follow, then pass them near the finish!

Soon after you start, take the time to look over the whole course and decide on your skips. Do not put this off until it is too late!

• You can skip for distance and reduce the distance of your course.
• You can skip for climb, and eliminate any big climbs.
• You can skip for difficulty, and avoid controls that are too difficult for you.

You can skip 2 controls.

The forked controls force you to spend time making a decision. Take one control of the fork, not both. You can choose which fork to take based on distance, climb, or difficulty.

Mass starts can be confusing. Stay calm and focussed.

The time limit is very generous. Don’t be late - even one second over and you will not get your award.

Directions

From I-85 North or South near Newnan, take Exit 47 Hwy. 34 (Bullsboro Blvd.). Go west 0.8 miles. Turn right onto Hwy. 34 Bypass (M Farmer Industrial Blvd.) and go 6 miles. Turn right onto Hwy. 34 (Franklin Road) at 4-way stop and go 8.2 miles. Turn right onto Thomas Powers Road and go 2.7 miles to a 4-way stop. The road name changes to Hewlett South Road. Continue straight 0.9 miles. Continue straight onto Bud Davis Road and go 1.9 miles. Turn right onto Flat Rock Road. The road name changes to Bobwhite Way. Continue straight to gated entrance of the park. The park address is 425 Bobwhite Way, Newnan, GA 30263.
