Join us this Sunday, October 29th at Hard Labor Creek State Park for classic orienteering courses on the Pflueger Trails map.
The northern center of the Pflueger Trails map contains a large area of private property marked as out of bounds. This property is used as a hunting property, and has a deer feeder very close to the park boundary. We recommend that you wear Hunter Orange or other bright colors during the event. There is a tricky section where an old roadbed will lead to the private property and the deer feeder, so be very careful with your navigation and be sure to stay off the private property.
Parking and finish will be at the mountain bike trailhead off of Knox Chapel Road, about 1.2 miles west of the park office. The parking area at the mountain bike trailhead is very small; overflow parking for cars will be available directly across Knox Chapel Road from the trailhead entrance. Be very careful crossing the road as Knox Chapel Road is fairly busy, and through traffic is fast. Please do not park along Knox Chapel Road. Park only in the bike trailhead parking area or the overflow parking area (marked with signs). There is no room for a bus to turn around at the bike trailhead or the overflow parking. If you bring a bus, plan to drop off your passengers on Knox Chapel Road near the bike trailhead and park at the park office (about 1.2 miles away).
Please pay the park's $5 parking fee regardless of which parking area you use.
Andi Berger will be teaching a Navigation 102 Clinic beginning at 9:30am. After a brief talk, Andi will take the group out to complete the Orange course while demonstrating and practicing precision compass skills, distance estimation, choosing routes, and using attack points. The clinic is expected to take about 2 hours to complete. You must pre-register for the clinic by choosing the "Orange with Navigation 102" option as your course on the registration form. No extra fee is charged for the clinic, but in order to register for the clinic, you must have a special coupon code indicating that you have prior approval to participate. If "Orange with Navigation 102" is not listed as a course option on the registration form, the clinic is full for this event.
