The Dauset Trails Nite-O is Saturday, 11-4-23. We will be at the shelter by the lake. Please enter via the gravel road at the bike path parking lot.

We are changing things up a bit this year, so please read the following carefully.

The event will be a 25 control score-o course.

We are going to use a hybrid start that includes both a start time window between 5pm and 7:28pm AND a mass start at 7:30. When you register, you will need to decide whether to choose the mass start at 7:30 OR select one of the start times between 5 and 7:28. Once a time between 5 and 7:28 is chosen, nobody else can chose it. However, the mass start time of 7:30 can be chosen by everybody who wants it. Additionally, those doing Andi's Navigation 102 clinic at 5pm will have an option to register for the score-o as a second course.

Importantly, the time limit for the event is 3 hours OR 9pm, whichever comes sooner.

Each control will be worth 4 points, perfect score is 100. There is a 1 point per minute late penalty. 15 minutes late results in disqualification.

In the event of a tie in points, the first tiebreaker goes to the later start time. The second tiebreaker goes to faster time.

Consider your strategy carefully when choosing your start time.

We will not be publishing registrants' start times on the website so as to not give an unfair advantage to later registrants. However, we will publish a list of those who have registered.

There will be no previewing of the map before your start time. You may start later than your start time, but you may not start earlier. Your start time will be the start time you elected, even if you start late. There will be no punching of the start box.

This format will allow those who don't like orienteering in the dark to participate in the daylight hours and still have an opportunity to win the event, even if the first tiebreaker may not be in their favor.

Controls 31-36 make a nice beginner course for those who don't want to stray from the trails.

My attempt to design the shortest course using all 25 controls resulted in a 6.4k course. This is slightly longer than last year, but the 6 beginner course controls are easier than last year, so it should be a wash.

I've tried to plan something for everyone, so come on out and give it a try.
