“PADDLE-BIKE-or RUN SCORE-O” RESULTS

On Saturday May 28th there
was lots of orienteering fun to be had on the lake and in its surrounding
terrain at beautiful Fort Yargo State
Park. Our sincere thanks to the many GAOC volunteers and
participants -- also the friendly Park staff -- who helped make the meet, picnic,
and annual general meeting a success. The nice clear Memorial Day
weekend weather this year was a big plus!
LOST & FOUND: After the meet a GIRL’S HAT and
a pair of SUNGLASSES were recovered. Contact Bill

SCORE-O SUMMARY: Congratulations to you 75 or so paddlers,
runners and bikers, who completed the “Open Score-O” course as individuals or
as part of a team, and who registered on 38 different entry form
“starts/finishes” (see below). The maximum possible score was 750
and a few of you got amazingly close to that! Special
kudos to those of you who managed to solve our special Puzzles to increase your
score and also return to the START within your 2-hour time limit. The
solutions to the “Mystery-Code O-Meet Equation” and “Hilltop Mystery” Puzzles
are as follows:
“O MEET EQUATION”: The two-character “mystery codes”
that appeared on six of our control flags were: “YA, OF, O=, UN, RG, and
FT.” When placed side by side in the correct order they can be said
to “describe the meet”: “FT YARGO
= O FUN!” Correct answer netted 100 extra points.
“HILLTOP MYSTERY NAME”: The “ironically poignant” name
shared by more than ten of the long-deceased denizens of Ft Yargo
State Park’s “Cemetery Hill” just 400 meters NE of our meet Start area is in
fact “HILL!” Local residents of the Winder area refer to
it as the “Hill family cemetery,” and that name appears clearly on twelve of
the tombstones. Correct answer netted 50 extra points.
