Lake Russell State Park

It is time again for our annual road trip out East! I would like to invite you this coming Sunday to Lake Richard B. Russell State Park near Elberton, GA (the granite capital of the world). The weather forecast shows 100% sunny, therefore there is no excuse not to show up! Yesterday it was absolutely gorgeous out there...

There will be a full set of courses from White to Red. E-Punching will also be available, so don't forget your fingerstick or rent one at the event. Here is what is waiting for you:

Directions

From Atlanta
I-85 North to GA 316, in Athens take GA 10-loop to US 29 North (approx 10mi), turn right on GA 72 East toward Elberton (32mi). Turn left on GA 77 (North Oliver St), go 1.2mi and turn right onto Ruckersville Road. Russell State Park is 8 miles down on the right.

From the North
Take I-85 South. After crossing the South Carolina / Georgia state line, take the first Georgia exit (#177) onto GA 77. Follow GA 77 south approximately 30 miles to Elberton, then turn left onto Ruckersville Road. Russell State Park is 8 miles down on the right.

From the East
I-20 West to exit 172 (Hwy 78), follow Hwy 78 to Washington, turn North on Hwy 17, follow Hwy 17 to Elberton. In Elberton turn right on GA 77 (North Oliver St), go 1.2mi and turn right onto Ruckersville Road. Russell State Park is 8 miles down on the right.

Schedule

GAOC offers beginner instruction at 10am at all local meets. Runners then may start their course any time between 11am and 1pm with a 3-hour time limit for all courses. All runners must be off the course by 3pm.

Fees

Typical fees are shown below. Participants may go out on the course as individuals or with a group. E-chip rental is required if you do not have your own stick.
